Aria Cohousing Community featured in AARP Magazine

Aria Cohousing was featured in this month’s AARP Magazine in collaboration with the National Building Museum.  The edition is called Making Room: Housing for a Changing America.  It’s featured the section, Part Two, Creative Solutions.  Aria is a multi-generational cohousing community in east Denver. Studio PBA and developer, Urban Ventures designed this project from an existing convent, Sisters of St. Francis.

Studio PBA's hospitality team is currently designing two projects in Fort Collins with developer Spirit Hospitality.  The first, Fairfield Inn and Suites located on Lady Moon Drive and Harmony Road will have 106 rooms and is expected to be completed late summer 2018.  The second project, Staybridge Suites property, Spirit at the River will have 107 rooms and is located on Lincoln Avenue.

Alta Gateway Complex Wins Development of the Year in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, April 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Wood Partners, a leader in real estate development and construction, announced their downtown development, Alta Gateway Station, has been named "Development of the Year" by the Utah Apartment Association.

The Utah Apartment Association hires a secret shopper to shop all of the nominated properties. Properties are judged on the development design, comfort through features and amenities, how the development adds to the neighborhood and if it complements the surrounding areas well. The Utah Apartment Association also judged staff knowledge, customer service and the cleanliness and maintenance of the building. This is the first award for Wood Partners from the association.

Alta Gateway Station is a transit-oriented community located next to The Gateway mall, which is in process of an extensive $100 million renovation. A new Dave and Buster’s restaurant and arcade, the first in Utah, is slated to open in May. The Gateway mall is the largest, open-air retail complex in Salt Lake City, and is quickly becoming one of the premier dining and entertainment spots for local residents, featuring local food trucks and events like the thriving Urban Flea Market. Alta Gateway Station is in an ideal location for young professionals to take advantage of the vibrant offerings in downtown SLC while having immediate access to multiple modes of transit including TRAX and FrontRunner.

AMLI Rino Poised to Break Ground Summer of 2018

Aria Cohousing Community Dedication Event

Denver, CO – This past weekend in the Chaffee Park neighborhood of Denver, the Aria Cohousing community celebrated its Rededication of the motherhouse, an event marking the transformation from former convent to a recently renovated 28-unit cohousing development.  City officials, members of the Urban Ventures development team, Marycrest Convent Sisters of St. Francis, and residents of the cohousing community gathered to officially transition the building from a former convent belonging to the Sisters to the current-day residents.  The ceremony included several speakers and a ribbon joining ceremony in which residents and Sisters joined together to rededicate the home. 

Aria Cohousing is a multifamily concept which actively engages homeowners in a more communal lifestyle. This 28-unit project is a renovation of the former Marycrest Convent, and forms the heart of a 17.5-acre redevelopment on the former convent site in the Chaffee Park neighborhood of northwest Denver. The new Aria neighborhood, when fully completed, will be a mixed-income, mixed use community with an emphasis on sustainability, urban agriculture and cultivating a collaborative neighborhood spirit. Studio PBA was responsible for the renovation of the convent units.

PBA in the News: Five Projects to Watch in 2017

Building Salt Lake's blog has made a list of five projects to watch in 2017.  "Utility and groundwork is underway on the Sugarmont Apartments, with building construction expected to start soon.  The eight-story apartment building will occupy the southwest corner of the block, directly east of the Fairmont S-Line station.  The Sugarmont Apartments will add 352 residential units to the Sugar House Central Business District." PBA at the ULI's TOD Marketplace and Tour

Studio PBA team members Kathy Parker, Derek Westby, Desirae Zamora and Edwin Mocke had a great opportunity to participate in ULI's TOD Marketplace and Tours last week.  The RTD Light Rail offered Wednesday afternoon guided tours to explore some exciting new developments in the surrounding area.  Kathy took the B Line tour, Westminster's Urban Future, that highlighted Westminster’s ambitious journey to become the next urban center on Colorado’s Front Range.  Derek rode the W Line to Lakewood, Emerging West Colfax, where the 40 West Arts is working to champion the renaissance of historic West Colfax, and Edwin rode the new A Line toward Denver International Airport's tour, Infill to Innovation.  

Thursday was ULI’s marketplace where guest speakers from various city offices including Denver, Boulder, Greenwood Village and Westminster and influential people in the real estate and development industries around Colorado shared their thoughts on Denver as a successful model city.   The marketplace also featured various building vendors and projects under construction around the Denver-metro area.  All in all, the event was beneficial in promoting and marketing the many new projects happening in the area, highlighting the improvements in transportation, and the importance of sustainability in the future of design.

PBA in the News: Supporting the Colfax Collaborative Petition

Studio PBA not only designs projects to improve Denver's infrastructure, we are invested in the community around which we work and play too.  The Colfax Collaborative is petitioning the City of Denver for funds to make improvements to Colfax Avenue for pedestrian safety and infrastructure.  Being located just off Colfax on Gilpin St., Studio PBA actively supports Colfax reinvestment and promoting of pedestrian re-activation.  Our own Derek Westby was interviewed by 7News yesterday evening and addressed the importance of pedestrian safety and promoting the reinvestment of Colfax itself.  To watch the news clip and learn more about this petition, click the link below. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/petition-asks-city-of-denver-to-invest-in-colfax-to-the-tune-of-500000

PBA in the News: Rogue Mailbox Prompts 9News Investigation

WalkDenver recently notified us via Twitter (@StudioPBA) that there has been some public concern for a mailbox placed on the corner of 16th and Gilpin, where our office is located.  The infamous mailbox is set directly on the sidewalk, causing some ADA advocates and local reporters to question the legality of its placement.  9News and Kyle Clark’s new segment Next Question, investigated its positioning and determined that in fact, it was legally placed, allowing 36’’ of clearance as per regulations require.  See their investigation here:  http://www.9news.com/mb/news/local/next-question-viewers-react-to-mailbox-on-sidewalk-in-cap-hill/291096622

As for Studio PBA, we had noticed the mailbox's placement had been moved over the summer but we were never informed why this had taken place.  We have no affiliation with the placement of this mailbox.  We do however, enjoy Kyle Clark’s commentary and seeing our sign on the news.  

UPDATE: As of 4:33 PM the mailbox has been removed-- to be placed elsewhere at a later date, TBD.
